Since childhood, Ms De has been a prodigy in acting, playing roles of the protagonist in plays by Tagore like Kabuliwala, Minibou, Daakghor and so on. In 2002, she was associated with the youth wing of a premiere organization where she made ‘Shakespeare Recreated’. Direction, script, concept, costume and poster design were all done by her. The play received review from famous theatre critic Shri Ananda Lal, and was staged again in 2003 on public demand.
In 2004, she directed an improv play “Shedin Boshonte” with the children of Noble Mission, a school for the differently abled in Hazra, Kolkata. This was the first scriptless play she made where the children stunned with their impromptu performances. The same was staged again in 2011 by mothers of children of a Montessori school at the annual function. The play was based on the short story ‘An Unknown Romance’ by O’Henry which she scripted with her husband Dr Paritosh Nandi.
A comedy play was directed by her at the ICSI National Conference of Practicing Company Secretaries in 2004 with the members and students of CS participating as actors. It was called ‘Dekho Hans Mat Dena’, based on the life of a frustrated movie director which left everyone rolling on the floor with laughter.
She has even acted in a Film Institute Project short film in 2004, based on the short story 'Chhuti' by Rabindranath tagore.
